From Today’s Edition of the Toronto Sun:
Last week I told you all about the amazing before and after photos of those renovation projects of all types and budgets being showcased at Destination Renovation at the National Home Show, which opens today (February 18) and runs through February 27 at the Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place.
There’s actually three components to Destination Renovation. The before/after photos of the 53 recent professional renovations are what we call renovation inspiration, and the projects featured are probably the best overall collection we have ever shown.
If you think of Destination Renovation as a three-legged stool, the second leg is renovation conversation, and that’s your opportunity to pull up a stool of the four-legged sort at our informal counter-top conversation area. We will have several professional renovation contractors on hand at all times throughout the Show to answer your renovation questions. This is your opportunity to talk to a contractor about project feasibility, timelines, approvals, ballpark estimates, etc.
We understand that the renovation process can seem a little daunting at the outset, and these conversations are designed to increase your comfort level by reducing the unknowns. Over the years, I’ve listened in on many of these one-on-ones between BILD contractors and homeowners, and I’ve always been impressed by the breadth of knowledge of our contractors as they kick ideas around with homeowners.
Homeowners are welcome to bring floorplans and/or photos and many do. Chances are our contractors have seen your layout before and can offer a solution or alternatives that you may or may not have thought of. Renovation Conversation takes place at Booth 2523 and you won’t be able to miss our contractors who will be sporting black and white golf shirts with the RenoMark™ logo on the front and Renovate with Confidence across the back.
The third and final component of Destination Renovation is our free renovation information including our popular RenoGuide: Five steps to a worry-free renovation, and our list of professional renovation contractors, both general and trade specific. The GTA directory features nearly 200 professional renovation contractors as well as dozens of trade contractors ranging from roofing to plumbing to heating/air conditioning to hardwood flooring.
The important thing to keep in mind with the directory is that no contractor gets listed without committing to our RenoMark™ Code of Conduct which requires them to provide, among other things, a detailed, written contract and scope of work, offer a minimum two-year warranty, carry a minimum $2 million in liability insurance, and hold all applicable licences and certificates.
If your are visiting the Show from areas just outside the GTA, we also have a listing of RenoMark™ contractors in Greater Barrie, Dufferin, Durham, Hamilton, London, Peterborough & the Kawarthas and Waterloo, so be sure to request a copy. These areas are all part of the RenoMark™ program which has expanded to 32 local home builders associations in eight different Provinces. Visit renomark.ca for more information.
I always look forward to working the booth at the Show, not only to eavesdrop on your conversations, but to take in the rest of the Show after my shift. If you are at the Show on Saturday February 19, I’ll be at Destination Renovation from 10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and would love to meet you.
